For the F-1 student visa you need admission from a SEVP-certified US school. We help you build a file that shows you are a genuine student with solid funding.
This checklist is for Pakistani passport holders applying from Pakistan. If you live in another country, the process and documents can be different.
What the U.S. government requires
- Acceptance by a SEVP-approved school in the US
- Form I-20 from your school, signed by you and the school official
- Payment of the SEVIS I-901 fee
- A valid passport, valid for at least six months beyond your stay in the US
- The DS-160 online application, with the confirmation page printed for your interview
- A photo that meets the U.S. photo requirements, uploaded with the DS-160
- The visa application fee receipt
- An interview at the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad or the Consulate in Karachi (fingerprints are usually taken there)
Documents the officer may ask for
- Transcripts, diplomas, degrees or certificates from your previous studies
- Test scores required by your US school, such as IELTS, TOEFL, SAT or GRE
- Proof of how you will pay all study, living and travel costs, such as bank statements and sponsor documents
- Evidence that you plan to leave the US after your studies
Good to know
- Apply early. Interview waiting times change through the year.
- The current visa fee is shown on the official U.S. visa website. Pay it before you book your interview.
