Every year, families lose money and sometimes their chance to travel because they trusted the wrong agent. The scammers are often friendly, they have a nice office or a busy Facebook page, and they speak with great confidence. That is exactly why people believe them.
This guide is not about scaring you away from every agent. Plenty of honest consultants do good work. It is about knowing what a bad one looks like.
Red flags to watch for
- Guaranteed visa. No one can guarantee approval, because the decision belongs to the embassy. Anyone who promises a sure result is lying.
- Very low fees. If the price is far below what everyone else charges, ask yourself how they plan to make money.
- Pressure to pay now. “Only two slots left” is a sales trick, not a visa rule.
- Fake or edited documents. If an agent suggests creating a bank statement, job letter or invitation, run. You are the one who will be banned, not them.
- No receipt, no written agreement. A real business will give you both.
- Payment only to a personal account. A registered company should have a company account or give a clear invoice.
- They keep your original passport with no reason. Ask why, and ask for it back in writing.
Simple checks before you pay
- Look for a registered company name, a physical address and a landline or office number.
- Search the name online together with words like “fraud” or “complaint”.
- Ask for the full fee in writing, including what is covered and what is not.
- Check the embassy website for the official fee and process, so you know what you should expect.
- Visit the office in person if you can.
Do you even need an agent?
For many e-visas, you can apply yourself on the official government site, and it is not hard. An agent is more useful when your case is complicated, for example a previous refusal, a business trip with several documents or a first Schengen application. Even then, you should still understand your own file.
If you have already been scammed
Keep every message, receipt and voice note. You can report cyber related fraud to the FIA Cyber Crime Wing, and complaints about travel agents can also go to the relevant provincial or federal authorities. Acting quickly gives you a better chance of getting help.
At Rawaani International we are a registered company in Lahore, we do not guarantee visas, and we tell you the fee before we start. You can read more about our team or contact us if you want to check us out.
