Dubai and Abu Dhabi are among the most popular trips for Pakistani families and young professionals. Flights are short and there is plenty to do. The visa, however, has become harder to get, so it pays to prepare properly before you spend money on tickets.
Do Pakistanis need a visa for the UAE?
Yes. A Pakistani passport holder needs a visa before travelling. Visit visas are normally arranged through an airline, a registered travel agent or a sponsor who lives in the UAE. You cannot simply turn up and get one at the airport.
What has changed recently?
Over the last year many Pakistani applicants have reported stricter screening, with first time and solo applicants facing more refusals. Family applications and people with a clear travel history and healthy bank records have generally fared better. These are reports from the travel industry, not an official announcement, so rules can differ from one month to the next. Ask for the current position before you pay any agent.
Documents you should prepare
- Passport valid for at least six months, with clean pages
- Recent passport size photo with a plain background
- CNIC copy
- Bank statements for the last three to six months
- Hotel booking or an invitation from a host in the UAE
- Return flight booking
- Proof of job or business, such as an employment letter or registration papers
- Previous travel history, if you have any
How to improve your chances
Keep your documents consistent. If your bank statement shows a salary of one amount and your employment letter says another, expect questions. Do not submit a hotel booking you cannot explain, and do not book non refundable flights until the visa is approved. A short, honest cover letter that explains why you are travelling and when you will return also helps.
Common reasons for refusal
- Low or sudden balance in the bank account
- Incomplete or edited documents
- Earlier overstay or immigration problem
- No clear purpose of travel
Fees and processing time
Prices vary a lot between agents, and the type of visa (single entry, multiple entry, number of days) changes the cost. Because there is no single fixed price, be careful of anyone who guarantees approval. Ask what is included, and keep a written receipt.
Before you fly
Check that your visa details match your passport, carry printed copies of your hotel and return ticket, and keep enough funds with you for the stay.
