Japan is a dream trip for many, and the embassy is very particular about paperwork. A tidy, complete file gives you the best chance.
This checklist is for Pakistani passport holders applying from Pakistan. If you live in another country, the process and documents can be different.
What the Embassy of Japan in Pakistan requires
- A completed and signed visa application form
- One photo, 4.5cm x 4.5cm, taken within the last 3 months, with a white background
- A valid passport with space for the visa, plus all old passports
- Original CNIC
- A letter explaining the purpose of your trip
- A bank statement covering the last 6 months
- Proof of your job or studies (government employees also need an NOC or leave certificate)
- A day-by-day schedule, hotel booking and flight itinerary
If you are visiting family or friends in Japan
- Invitation letter and letter of guarantee from your host
- Your host’s employment certificate, and their bank or tax certificate if they are paying for the trip
- Your host’s residence documents
- Proof of your relationship, such as Nikkah Nama or B-form (with attested English translations)
Good to know
- Applications are submitted through the Japan Visa Application Centre (VFS Global / Gerry’s). Residents of Sindh and Balochistan apply in Karachi.
- The embassy accepts originals only. Standard processing is about 6 working days when the file is complete.
