Many Pakistanis think of Saudi Arabia only for Umrah, but the country now welcomes tourists too. The rules depend on the type of visa, and they have changed more than once in recent years. This guide explains the basics so you can ask the right questions.
Tourist visa and Umrah visa are not the same
A tourist visa is meant for sightseeing, events and visiting relatives. An Umrah visa is issued for the pilgrimage and is usually arranged through an authorised Umrah company. If your plan is Umrah, read our Umrah preparation checklist as well.
Can Pakistanis apply online?
The online tourist eVisa is open to citizens of a list of countries, and travellers from some other countries can qualify if they hold a valid visa from the US, UK or a Schengen country. Eligibility for Pakistani passport holders depends on your situation, so check the official portal before you do anything. Start at visa.visitsaudi.com or the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs visa service, and if you are not eligible, contact the Saudi embassy in Islamabad about a sticker visa.
Documents to keep ready
- Passport with at least six months validity and blank pages
- Recent passport photo that meets the size and background rules
- Completed application form
- Travel insurance, where the visa type requires it
- Hotel booking or an invitation letter from a host, with proof of relationship
- Proof of funds, if someone else is paying for your trip
Tips that save time
Apply only through official channels. Many websites copy the look of the government portal and charge extra. Fill every field exactly as it appears in your passport, and keep a copy of your application number. If an agent offers a visa, ask to see the official application record.
Before you travel
Print your visa and booking papers, check the validity dates and read the entry conditions again a few days before departure. Rules for stay length, validity and insurance can be updated, so always rely on the latest official page. Looking for flights? See our flights page.
